DURHAM 65, CENTENNIAL 59

SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team earned an important road victory on Wednesday night as they defeated the Centennial Colts 65-59 in Scarborough.

The Lords now sit in second place in the OCAA East region with a 9-3 record, two points ahead of the Colts (8-3) and St. Lawrence Vikings (8-2).

Despite trailing 43-42 at the end of three quarters, Durham was able to pick up the pace and drain 23 points in the final 10 minutes to secure their ninth win of the season.

Kate Mowat (Whitby, Ont.) played a key role in the win as she had a team-high 20-point performance. This is the second time that Centennial's defence could not find a way to stop the 5-foot-10 forward as she scored 20 points in Durham's 76-51 win over the Colts earlier in the season.

Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) chipped in with 12 points while Kauri LaFontaine (Whitby, Ont.) had six points and 11 rebounds. LaFontaine ranks fourth in the OCAA East region averaging 8.7 rebounds per game.

The trio of Mowat, Hare and LaFontaine are lighting up the scoreboard this season as all three players are in the top 10 of OCAA East region scoring.

With 19 overall victories, Durham has reached their highest win total since the 2005-06 season. That year was the last time the Lords reached the OCAA championship where they finished in fourth place, losing out in the bronze medal game.

The Lords will return home on Tuesday night when they host a struggling Loyalist College squad. The Lancers are 1-11 on the year which includes a 76-62 loss to Durham in Belleville.
