FANSHAWE 53, SHERIDAN 46

LONDON, Ont. - In their final regular season home game of the year, the Fanshawe women's basketball team (13-4) defeated the Sheridan Bruins (11-6) by a final score of 53-46.  Fanshawe is currently in second place in the OCAA West Division standings.

Sheridan started the game on a 4-0 run but the Falcons came back with four straight points by Anique Daley to tie the game. Both teams were playing very tight defence but the Bruins scored the final four points of the quarter and took a 13-8 lead into the second.

Sheridan led by as many as seven in the second quarter but Fanshawe forced a number turnovers and a bucket at the halftime buzzer by Ashley Galloway had the Falcons within four, 24-20.

A lay-up by Fanshawe's Laura Vere early in the third quarter tied the game at 26. Moments later, Fanshawe stole the ball from the Bruins and took the lead on a reverse lay-up by Kiera Serodio.  The Bruins closed the gap to one but a jumper by Kiera Serodio gave the Falcons the three point lead with one quarter to play.

Sheridan retook the lead 40-39 but Fanshawe stormed back and led 45-42 with four and a half minutes to play in the game. Sheridan's Sabrina Brathwaite made a long two-point jumper to cut the lead to one but Fanshawe's Victoria Racine made back-to-back midrange jumpers, pushing the Falcons lead to five. Fanshawe would hold on and win the game 53-46.
 
Fanshawe will play on the road next Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. versus the Mohawk Mountaineers (11-5).
