MOHAWK 94, REDEEMER 68

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Mohawk basketball teams had a successful night at Redeemer Friday (Feb. 14) taking both ends of their men's and women's doubleheader with the Royals.

Matt Fennell scored 40 points, including six three-pointers as the Mountaineers beat their hosts 89-76. Andrew Cicuttini added 18 points for Mohawk, which improved to 14-3, while the Royals dropped to 7-11 to complete their regular season. Benn Ibrahim led Redeemer with 22 points and Jacob Walda added 17.

The Mountaineers entertain Fanshawe in the final regular season game Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre, hoping to gain a bye to the OCAA championship.

The Mohawk women outgunned Redeemer 27-6 in the final quarter and scored a 94-68 decision. The game was very close over the first three quarters.

Stef Hrymak, the rookie out of Westdale, was at it again, scoring 20 points for the Mountaineers. Jen Abella had 14 points, 12 of them from three-point range. Careena Browne and Allyson DeLorenzi chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Lindsay Moffatt had 17 points and Jessica Brown added 16 for the Royals, whose season ended with a 6-12 record.

The Mountaineers, who moved to 12-5, finish the regular season Wednesday, at home, against Fanshawe and will be jockeying for their playoff position.
