ST. LAWRENCE (K) 59, MOHAWK 51

HAMILTON, Ont. - St. Lawrence College of Kingston still has a shot at a medal at the belairdirect Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Women's Basketball Championship at Mohawk College in Hamilton. The Vikings downed the Fanshawe Falcons of London 59-51 in their bronze quarter-final match at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre Friday (Feb. 28).

The Falcons led 28-26 at halftime, but the Vikings came out strong in the third quarter and opened up a 46-29 lead and it was beginning to look like a walk in the park for St. Lawrence. However, Fanshawe wasn't about to throw in the towel, and fought back to within three points, aided by four consecutive free throws from Rachel Jaworowicz after a foul and a technical called on St. Lawrence. But that was as close as the Falcons would get and the Vikings closed out their eight-point decision.

Lacey Knox had a monster game for St. Lawrence with 22 points and 15 rebounds, but teammate Nicolle Gaudet, who had 16 points, 13 rebounds and five turnovers was named the Vikings player of the game.

Jaworowicz, was high scorer for Fanshawe with 12 points. Anique Daly, with 10 points and eight rebounds was the Falcons player of the game.

While Fanshawe has been eliminated, St. Lawrence moves to the bronze semi-finals Saturday at 11 a.m. They will play the loser of the Mohawk-Humber game which is to be played at 8 p.m. Friday.
