MOHAWK 74, SAULT 38

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. - To say the trip was arduous would be putting it mildly. But Mohawk's 14 hour bus ride to Sault Ste. Marie didn't stop both the men's and women's basketball teams from scoring important wins on Friday.

After a snow storm and a highway closed for a spell because of an accident, the Mountaineer women literally came off the bus and downed the Sault College Cougars 74-38. The game didn't start until 9:15 p.m. Thirteen of Mohawk's 14 players scored, with Stef Hrymak being the top gun with 16 points. Rachelle Abella added 10. Mountaineers improved their record to 9-4, while the Cougars fell to 1-10.

The Mohawk men upped their mark to 10-3, with an 85-62 verdict over Sault College, 4-7.

Taylor Dowhaniuk notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. He also had five blocked shots. Pat Iavarone scored 18 points, Matt Fennell had 14 points and five rebounds and Andrew Cicuttini scored 11 points and added seven boards.

This game didn't tip off until 11:15 p.m. and ended at 1 a.m. It all makes for an even quicker turnaround for the teams as they meet again Saturday, with the women playing at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.
