ST. CLAIR 65, GEORGE BROWN 41

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair women's basketball team advanced to the OCAA championship tournament after defeating George Brown 65-41 at the campus gym Saturday afternoon.

Neither team shot the ball very well but the Saints held George Brown scoreless for much of the first quarter. St. Clair was ahead 13-1 heading into the second quarter and then led 28-17 by half time.

It never got closer as the Saints increased their lead to 20 points by the end of the third quarter (45-25) and cruised to the victory. Four players reached double figures for St. Clair who scored 30 points off 41 George Brown turnovers.

St. Clair's outstanding player of the game was Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) who scored 20 points to go with 11 rebounds and four steals. Saints guard Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./F.J. Brennan) scored 12 points adding five rebounds while Kendyl Rizea (Windsor, Ont./Vincent Massey) scored 11 points with six rebounds and six assists. Jessica Gordon (London, Ont./Mother Teresa) chipped in with 10 points and added nine rebounds for St. Clair.

George Brown's Quichell Barriffe scored 17 points to lead her team in the loss.

The St. Clair women's basketball team will face St. Lawrence (Kingston, Ont.) to open the OCAA championship tournament hosted by Mohawk College (Hamilton, Ont.) on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.
