DURHAM 87, FLEMING 27

OSHAWA, Ont. - Heather LaFontaine has certainly made an impact on the Durham College women's basketball team in her first season as head coach as the Lords matched a program high in overall wins with 23 after an 87-27 victory over Fleming College in their OCAA regular season finale.

The win total matches the 1996-97 team which won a gold medal at the OCAA provincial championship led by coach Mike Duggan.

With a 13-3 conference record, the Lords finish the regular season in second place and have earned an automatic bye into the OCAA championship hosted by Mohawk (Hamilton, Ont.) from Feb. 27-March 1.

Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) also hit a milestone as she finishes her career with 1,127 career points, moving into second place in the OCAA all-time scoring charts. The fifth-year senior moved past Melinda Coker who played for Mohawk and Seneca from 1975-78 and 1982-85. Hare drained a team-high 17 points in the one-sided victory.

Hellen Dumbuya (Whitby, Ont.) had a season-high performance scoring 16 points while Kauri LaFontaine (Whitby, Ont.) was one assist shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine assists. LaFontaine finishes the year in the top ten in OCAA league scoring, rebounds and assists.

The Lords will make their first appearance at the OCAA championship since the 2005-06 season.
