ST. LAWRENCE (K) 53, GEORGE BROWN 44

KINGSTON, Ont. - The St. Lawrence College women's basketball team was left waiting for their opponent, the George Brown Huskies, to arrive as the Huskies were stuck behind a major accident on the 401 on their way to Kingston, Ont. The Huskies would arrive roughly 30 minutes behind, and made the Vikings offence work to produce any momentum throughout the game. But the Vikings came alive to start the second half, and would go on to win 53-44.

The long bus ride for the Huskies, combined with Vikings' extended warm-up, produced a very slow start, as the game remained scoreless through the first four minutes. The game would eventually open up in the second quarter, with the Vikings trying to mount a comeback, after being down 11-3 at end of the first quarter. SLC would chip away at the lead, but the comeback gained momentum after a pair of jump shots by Lacey Knox that finally got the Vikings ahead on the scoreboard.

The Vikings came out with great energy and speed to start the second half, as they quickly ran up the score and took control of the game. All nine dressed SLC players rotated in and out of the game, and had a combined effort in the Vikings 53-44 victory over the Huskies.

"It's a good thing they don't ask how, they just ask how many, because our effort tonight was not there," said Vikings head coach Remy Simpson.

The Vikings struggled on the stat sheet, shooting just 2-of-25 from the three-point line, and finished with 32 turnovers. However, SLC would out rebound George Brown 48-33, with Knox finishing with nine points and nine rebounds, leading the Vikings in both categories.

SLC will travel east to visit the 2012-13 OCAA champions, the Algonquin College Thunder, on Friday, Jan. 31. The next home game takes place Feb. 8 when the Vikings host the Georgian College Grizzlies.
