FANSHAWE 54, ST. CLAIR 47

LONDON, Ont. - On Thursday night, the Fanshawe Falcons defeated the St. Clair Saints (3-3) by a final score of 54-47, pushing their undefeated streak to 7 games. Fanshawe is currently ranked 13th in the CCAA national rankings.

The Saints jumped out to a 9-2 lead after just three minutes in the first quarter but the Falcons scored back to back lay-ups, cutting the lead to just three. Both teams picked up their defence, holding each other to just four points each for the rest of the quarter. The Saints led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter.

After giving up two points to the Saints, Fanshawe went on a 13-0 run, taking their first lead of the game. The Falcons continued to play tenacious defence, not allowing the Saints to score again for over seven minutes. At the half, Fanshawe led 26-21.

With the score 28-21 for Fanshawe early in the third quarter, the Saints scored 10 unanswered points to take the lead. Anique Daley came right back for the Falcons, scoring back-to-back buckets to retake the lead 32-31 with four minutes to play in the quarter. With just two seconds left in the third, Fanshawe's Stephanie Antwi scored a runner in the lane to take the lead 38-36 with one quarter to play.

Fanshawe's full court press was killing the Saints in the fourth, forcing them into a number of turnovers. The Falcons slowly started to pull away and led by as many as 11 in the quarter.  Fanshawe won the game by a final score of 54-47.

The Falcons next game takes place on Friday, Nov., 28 at 6 p.m. at home versus the Humber Hawks (6-1).

LONDON, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team fell to unbeaten Fanshawe in London on Thursday night by a score of 54-47.

The Saints led after the first quarter but surrendered a large Fanshawe run in the second quarter and trailed 26-21 at halftime. St. Clair clawed their way back in the third quarter and took a brief 39-38 lead early in the fourth quarter.

However, Fanshawe used a significant advantage in offensive rebounding that led to a 10-point difference in second chance points. Fanshawe was also able to get 15 more points at the free-throw line than the Saints in a game that neither team was able to shoot 30 per cent from the field.

St. Clair's Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph) led all scorers with 18 points and added nine rebounds but her night was shortened after fouling out. Saints post Nicole Tamm (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) scored seven points with six rebounds and four assists.

Stephanie Antwi (Toronto) led Fanshawe with 11 points and nine rebounds in the win.
