MOHAWK 76, NIAGARA 66

WELLAND, Ont. - The Mohawk women's basketball team, which was a disappointing 2-2 to start the season, have reeled off five straight victories to complete the first semester in a tie for second place in the OCAA west division.

The Mountaineers improved to 7-2, with a 76-66 win at Niagara on Friday.

JenJen Abella had 23 points, seven steals and four assists, Monica Batinic had 18 points and seven rebounds and Careena Browne collected 12 points and added five boards.

The five consecutive victories is an impressive accomplishment for a team which has had injuries to key individuals and the holiday break comes at a good time as the squad attempts to get healthier.

They won't play again until a tournament at Seneca Jan. 8-9.

They'll resume OCAA play at Humber Jan. 13 and resume their home schedule when Niagara pays a return visit to Hamilton, Ont., on Jan. 20.
