MOHAWK 63, FANSHAWE 62

HAMILTON, Ont. - Jakayla Douse came to the rescue as the Mohawk women's basketball team nipped the Fanshawe Falcons 63-62 in an OCAA nail-biter Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Douse scored a bucket with just over a minute to play at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre to put the Mountaineers ahead 61-59. But Fanshawe's Ali Vlasman put the Falcons ahead by one point with a basket and successful free throw.

With 5.9 seconds on the clock Mohawk forced a jump ball deep in Fanshawe territory. The Mountaineers had the possession arrow going their way and with 2.9 seconds remaining, Douse delivered the winning shot. Douse had an outstanding double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Stefan Hrymak had 11 points.

Mikhaila Wright had 14 points for Fanshawe, while Vlasman scored 12.

Mohawk improved to 6-2 and has one more game at Niagara Friday before the holiday break.
