HUMBER 79, ST. CLAIR 66

ETOBICOKE, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team were outlasted 79-66 in Etobicoke, Ont., on Saturday by undefeated Humber College who is the top team in the OCAA's west region and ranked No. 2 in the country.

The Saints surprised the Hawks in the early going and held a slim lead before trailing 16-14 after the opening frame. Humber then worked towards a 14-point lead during the second quarter but St. Clair battled back with a 10-0 run and were only behind 34-28 at halftime.

Humber pushed its advantage during the third quarter and put the game out of reach in the early stages of the fourth quarter with as much as a 17-point difference. The Saints closed to within nine points but could come no closer as turnovers and some missed opportunities near the basket proved to be their undoing.

Third-year guard Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) had a nice shooting game making four triples on her way to 17 points and added 10 rebounds for the double-double to lead the Saints. Second-year forward Torrie Handsor (Wallaceburg, Ont.) continued her consistency scoring 14 points to go with five rebounds and five steals. Fifth-year guard Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./FJ Brennan) reached double figures scoring 13 points but helped her team with six rebounds and a noteworthy six assists. Third-year point guard Sarah Bondy (Amhersburg, Ont./General Amherst) chipped in with 10 points for St. Clair.
