HUMBER 90, ST. CLAIR 81

WELLAND, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team fell 90-81 Thursday afternoon to Humber College (Etobicoke) at the OCAA Championship hosted by Niagara College in Welland, Ont. The Saints are now relegated to the consolation side of the bracket with no chance at a provincial medal and face St. Lawrence College (Kingston) Friday at 1 p.m.

The Saints were playing right with the nation's second-ranked team and hit a pair of triples to end the first quarter tied at 24-24 in a high scoring frame. Humber, however, continued to stay hot shooting over 50 per cent from the field and from beyond the three-point arc in the first half.

St. Clair cooled off enough in the second quarter to allow Humber to take a 51-38 lead into the halftime break. Humber maintained that momentum into the third quarter where they increased its lead to as much as 19 points.

The Saints never gave in and with some desperation in the fourth quarter cut the deficit to just nine points on a few occasions but could come no closer. Statistically Humber had a slight advantage in rebounding (42-36) but scored 11 second chance points to just one for St. Clair.

Third-year guard Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) was named the St. Clair Player of the Game scoring 23 points to go with six rebounds. Fifth-year Saints guard Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./FJ Brennan) scored 16 points adding five rebounds and four assists. Nicole Tamm (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) and Sarah Body (Amherstburg, Ont./General Amherst) each scored 14 points for St. Clair. Bondy also contributed seven rebounds and six assists.

OCAA Player of the Year Ceejay Nofuente (Toronto) scored 25 points to earn Player of the Game honours for Humber but added seven rebounds, six assists and five steals.
