NIAGARA 69, ST. CLAIR 59

WELLAND, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team ran out of gas in their final game against host Niagara College losing 69-59 in the OCAA consolation final Saturday afternoon in Welland, Ont.

After putting up 80 points against the OCAA's top team (Humber) on Thursday and 87 points against the East Region's No. 2 team (St. Lawrence) on Friday, the Saints could only muster 59 points against Niagara on 21.5 per cent shooting in the game. St. Clair will now prepare for the CCAA national championship being played March 17-19 at the SportsPlex with the match-ups to be released on Tuesday.

St. Clair fell behind 15-10 after the opening quarter but responded to regain the lead in the second quarter before relinquishing it to trail 33-30 by halftime. A very low scoring third quarter (12-7) saw the Saints take a brief lead into the fourth quarter. But Niagara shot the ball well down the stretch (52 per cent in the second half) outscoring St. Clair 29-17 in the game's deciding quarter.

Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) was named St. Clair's player of the game scoring 16 points to go with seven rebounds. Second-year post Nicole Tamm (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) also scored 16 points adding four rebounds but fouled out in the second half. Fifth-year guard Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./FJ Brennan) reached double figures scoring 10 points and recorded seven rebounds.

Niagara's Kaitlyn McPherson (Welland, Ont.) had 22 points to lead all scorers in the win.
