FLEMING TO HOST OCAA BASKETBALL ALL-STAR GAMES

FLEMING TO HOST OCAA BASKETBALL ALL-STAR GAMES

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The top Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) basketball student-athletes will be heading to Fleming College for the 2017 all-star games. Presented by belairdirect, the campus athletics and recreation department will showcase the best in intercollegiate basketball action with the men's and women's games taking place on Saturday, March 25.

"We're really excited to be hosting the top collegiate student-athletes in the province," said Fleming College athletic coordinator Fred Batley. "With over 100 participants competing, we hope to draw a lot of fans from Peterborough and area to come out and cheer on the competitors. With many provincial and national all-stars in attendance, the athletes competing are second to none."

Fleming College is no stranger to hosting major events. Having hosted a number of provincial and national championships, this will be the third time that Fleming has hosted OCAA basketball all-star games.

The day will begin with the skills competitions at 9:30 a.m., followed by the women's basketball game that will tip-off at 1:30 p.m., and followed by the men's game at 4:10 p.m.

The two games will take centre stage on Saturday but there will also be a number of other competitions that fans will enjoy: a skills competition, fan promotions including a "Shoot for Cash" competition with an opportunity to win $1,000, and a mascot competition in which participating schools will also be sending their top mascots to perform. The day will include a special appearance by Toronto Raptors game announcer Herbie Kuhn.

"The event committee really wanted to make this all-star day as fun as possible. Hosting the games provides a great opportunity to showcase our hospitality, athletic facility, and the Peterborough community to the rest of the province," said Batley.

This licensed event at the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre is open to the public with free admission. Further information can be found at www.flemingknights.ca.
