OSHAWA, Ont. - The Niagara Knights proved to be too much for the Durham College women's basketball team on Saturday night as the Lords fell 61-48 in the Big 8 Classic consolation final at the CRWC.
Durham had a strong opening quarter, with evenly balanced offence, to lead 12-7. A 7-0 run put the Lords down early in the second. From that point on they were unable to regain the lead as Niagara opened a 10-point lead at half and 13 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Tournament all-star Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) led the Lords for the third straight game of the weekend with 17 points. Emily Naccarato, who was also named an all-star, led the Knights with 13 points.
The Lords punched their ticket to the consolation final with a 79-62 victory over the George Brown Huskies in the second game of the day.
Durham trailed early in the game, but by half led 38-27 and never surrendered the lead the rest of the way. Panchan led the Lords with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Emily Chamberlain (Kingston, Ont.) had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Tianna Sullivan's 22 points and nine rebounds led the Huskies.
Durham opened the weekend with a 69-67 loss to John Abbott on Friday night.
