MOHAWK WINS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNEY

BARRIE, Ont. - The Mohawk women's basketball team successfully defended its title in taking the Georgian Fall Classic in Barrie, Ont., on Saturday.

The Mountaineers downed the Niagara Knights 84-78 in the final.

Sam Pocrnic scored 23 points, Hunter Johns had 17 and Stef Hrymak scored 11.

Mohawk was down by 16 points in the first half, but got better defensively in the second half and made a good offensive run.

Pocrnic was named Tournament MVP, while Johns was selected as an All-Star.

The Mountaineers defeated the Sault College Cougars 64-44 Saturday to advance. Jasmine Kucic scored 25 points and added 19 rebounds while Shanien O'Neil had 14 points.

Niagara beat Cambrian 84-44.
