MOHAWK 82, NIAGARA 75

HAMILTON, Ont. - Opening day was was a good one for Mohawk in OCAA women's basketball at the DBARC on Saturday.

The Mountaineers were tested but defeated the Niagara Knights 82-75.

Hunter Johns scored 20 points, Sam Pocrnic had 16 and Jasmina Kucic scored 15 points and added 13 rebounds.

"It was a really hard fought game," said Mohawk head coach Kevin Duffy. "(Niagara) just don't quit. I thought we relaxed too much at certain points of the game and some of our mental lapses led to easy baskets for them."

On the other hand, Duffy said he was happy with the way the team ended the game running some strong sets and making crucial foul shots.

"This certainly was a great early test for us," said the coach. Hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and get better for the Sheridan game (Nov. 1)."
