MOHAWK 74, ST. CLAIR 47

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team started slow and never caught up dropping their first game of the season to Mohawk College (Hamilton, Ont.) by a score of 74-47 at the SportsPlex Friday night.

Mohawk used full-court pressure to stake themselves to an early 8-0 lead and never looked back entering the second quarter up 24-8. The Saints made a small inroad in the second quarter but still trailed 35-20 by halftime. Mohawk was effective from outside (6-of-12 from three-point range) but also secured 14 more rebounds in the game than St. Clair.

No Saints reached double figures after shooting just 26 per cent from the field who were also scoreless from long range. Second-year forward Rylee Welsh (LaSalle, Ont./St. Thomas of Villanova) led St. Clair with eight points off the bench adding four rebounds. Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) was held to just seven points on 3-of-22 shooting to go with five rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.

Mohawk's Hunter Johns (Kitchener, Ont.) scored a game-high 17 points in the win.
