FANSHAWE 61, ST. CLAIR 53

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team fell 61-53 to Fanshawe College (London, Ont.) Friday night at the SportsPlex dropping their West Division record to 11-3 with four games left in the regular season.

Although St. Clair opened the game with a few baskets Fanshawe responded to take a 15-13 lead after the opening quarter. Fanshawe increased their lead slightly heading into halftime ahead 29-25.

But Fanshawe stretched it out to their largest lead early in the second half at 39-28. Trailing by 10 points entering the fourth quarter St. Clair was able to mount a comeback trimming the lead to just three points with a few minutes to go. But Fanshawe was good down the stretch from the free throw line to preserve their win.

Fanshawe outrebounded St. Clair 44-35 in the game and shot a respectable 65 per cent (15-of-23) from the free throw line compared to the Saints who managed to only convert 46 per cent (10-of-22). St. Clair did shoot a better percentage from the floor but the game was decided on rebounds and loose balls.

St. Clair was led by Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) who scored a game-high 23 points and added nine rebounds but was the only Saint to reach double figures in the low scoring affair. Torrie Handsor (Wallaceburg, Ont.) scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds for St. Clair.

Fanshawe's Natalie Warren (London, Ont.) scored 17 points leading her team in the victory.
