There will be a new champion crowned in OCAA women’s
soccer action as the Durham Lords dethroned the Humber Hawks 1-0 in
the second Belairdirect OCAA Women’s Soccer Championship
semi-final today at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.
Humber goal keeper Rosemary Ormeno provided the brightest highlight
of the first half, stealing a glorious scoring opportunity away
from the Lords on a penalty kick. Heading into the change rooms at
the first half there was no score.
Daniela Calleri found the back of the net for the Lords in the
second half on a free kick. Ormeno was able to touch the shot
enough to deflect it off of the crossbar, but was unable to change
the direction enough to keep the ball from crossing the goal
line.
Daniela Calleri of Durham and Brittany Szcerbakow of the Hawks were
named the Players of the Game.
The Durham Lords now advance to the Belairdirect OCAA Women’s
Soccer Championship gold medal game to face the Fanshawe Falcons
after missing the final four last season. The championship game
will kick off at 3:00pm.
Humber will play for bronze at 9:00am Saturday morning and will
face their crosstown rival Sheridan Bruins.
