STILL THE TEAMS TO BEAT
Last year's OCAA medalists are all perfect after their first
regular season matches of 2014, all posting shutouts on the
road.
Defending champion Algonquin traveled to Sudbury, Ont., and
defeated host Cambrian 2-0.
Silver medalist Seneca rolled a seven in its opener, blanking
Fleming 7-0 in Peterborough, Ont.
Bronze medalist Humber edged Fanshawe 1-0 in London, Ont.
Incidentally, Algonquin is ranked No. 2 in the initial CCAA
national rankings.
DEUCES ARE WILD
Five players scored two times in a match this weekend.
In Seneca's victory, third-year players Cassandra
Nicolodi (Toronto) and Emma Gattoni
(Thornhill, Ont.) were one goal shy of a hat trick.
Cambrian bounced back from its loss to Algonquin with a 7-0
victory over Loyalist. Taylor Rocca (Sault Ste.
Marie, Ont.), Tiffany Johnson (Sudbury, Ont.) and
Courtney Ceccarelli (Sudbury, Ont.) all scored a
pair of goals.
BOUNCE BACK
After both teams suffered 7-0 defeats in their openers, Fleming
battled Loyalist to a 2-2 draw in their meeting on Tuesday.
Second-year forward Sonya Dronsfield (Nepean,
Ont.) and first-year midfielder Hannah Healey
(Corbyville, Ont.) scored for Loyalist. Second-year striker
Ashley Gilbert (Peterborough, Ont.) and third-year
defender Michelle Boyer (Balderson, Ont.) replied
for Fleming.
SCORELESS IN KINGSTON
There were two other draws this weekend, including a scoreless
encounter between the Durham Lords and St. Lawrence Vikings.
In Kitchener, Ont., St. Clair tied the Conestoga 1-1. First-year
player Josie Makcrow (Cambridge, Ont.) scored for
Conestoga, while third-year forward Nicole
McKenzie (Belle River, Ont.) tallied the equalizer for St.
Clair.
