HUMBER 3, ST. CLAIR 1

VAUGHAN, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's varsity soccer team went on the road this weekend to play a couple of top-ranked opponents and suffered two tough losses.

On Saturday, the Saints travelled to Oakville, Ont., to take on the Sheridan Bruins. In a closely fought match the Saints played well but ended up losing 1-0 on a goal in the 90th minute of play.

With the win Sheridan improved to six wins and two ties on the season. The Sheridan women are ranked third in Ontario and 12th in Canada.

On Sunday, St. Clair travelled across the GTA to take on the Humber Hawks. Sam Geier (Windsor, Ont.) got the Saints on the board early scoring in the fourth minute of play. St. Clair went into half time up 1-0, however, Humber scored a couple quick goals early in the second half to go up 2-1.

Humber put the game away in the 84th minute as the Saints were pushing forward for the equalizer. Humber improved to seven wins and a tie with the victory to finish in first place in the OCAA West Division. Humber is ranked second in Ontario and fourth in Canada.

With the two close losses St. Clair's record fell to four wins, two losses and two ties on the season. The Saints ended up in fourth place in the OCAA West Division.

With the fourth place finish St. Clair will host Mohawk (fifth place West) in a playoff game later this week. The time and location will be confirmed on Monday. This will be the first time that the St. Clair women's team has hosted a playoff game since 1999.
