VAGNINI NAMED NATIONAL WOMEN'S SOCCER COACH OF THE YEAR

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Steve Vagnini of the St. Clair Saints has been named the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.

He received the award this evening at the 2015 CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship banquet, hosted by Fleming College in Peterborough, Ont.

Vagnini led the Saints to a 9-1 record and second-place finish in the OCAA's West Division. St. Clair more than doubled its win total from 2014 (4-2-2).

"He has done a tremendous job this year as coach of the Saints," said Marlene Ford, CCAA Women's Soccer Convenor. "His team has improved in every aspect on the field and they are always tough competitors."

Vagnini is also the head coach of St. Clair's women's indoor team that captured the OCAA championship last winter. In addition, he is the club head coach for the Eastside Kickers Soccer Club and he was recently the head coach for the Windsor Stars men's program, which participated in the Canadian Soccer League and the newly formed League 1 Ontario.

He helps players develop as a team while understanding their roles and responsibilities as individuals. Vagnini's players have committed to the team's playing style and understand their roles and objectives both offensively and defensively.

CCAA Coach of the Year winners receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.

The CCAA is a national sport organization enriching the academic experiences of student-athletes through intercollegiate sport.
