ALGONQUIN, FLEMING FALL AT OCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER NATIONALS

ALGONQUIN, FLEMING FALL AT OCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER NATIONALS

Quarter-Final No. 3: Ahuntsic defeated Algonquin 1-0 (5-3 Penalty Kicks)

Ahuntsic advanced to the semifinals of the 2015 CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship with a 5-3 victory in penalty kicks over the OCAA champion Algonquin Thunder.

With teams combining for 12 goals in the first two games of the championship, the third quarter-final of the day was the exact opposite with the two sides going scoreless over 90 minutes.

In penalty kicks, the first seven shooters all scored on their attempts giving Ahuntsic a 4-3 lead. With Algonquin's fourth shooter up, second-year goalkeeper Lea Palacio-Tellier stretched out to make the first save of penalty kicks.

Palacio-Tellier then had the honour of taking the next penalty kick for Ahuntsic. She made no mistake as she buried it in the bottom-left corner to send the Indiennes to the semifinals.

Defender Catherine Cloutier was named player of the game for Ahuntsic, doing a great job of patrolling the back line through out the course of the game. CCAA all-Canadian Sylvie Avedissian was named player of the game for the Thunder.

Ahuntsic's semifinal match will take place on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m. Algonquin will still have a chance at a podium finish playing in the bronze medal quarter-final at 12:30 p.m.

Defending champions Garneau beat hosting Knights

Quarter-Final No. 4: Garneau defeated Fleming 5-1

The hosting Fleming Knights were unable to pull off an upset in the last quarter-final of day one at the 2015 CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship as the top-seeded and defending champion Garneau Elans picked up a 5-1 victory.

Garneau will play their RSEQ rivals Ahuntsic in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m. The other semifinal will feature the Douglas Royals and NAIT Ooks.

It was a total team effort for the Elans, who went 10-0-0 during the RSEQ regular season, as five different players scored in the victory.

Garneau looked dominant in the first half capitalizing on three of their chances, with Dominique Fortin, Jade Bourgoing and Marie-Mychele Metivier scoring the goals.

Fleming would get on the board in the 58th minute when Mikenna Huggins scored on a second chance opportunity, getting the Knights within two goals.

However, the comeback attempt was short lived as Chloe Pelletier-Ratte scored in the 64th minute to put the Elans back up by three goals. Garneau capped off the victory when Charlotte Gagnon scored in the 88th minute.

Garneau used quick passes to generate several scoring opportunities throughout the match. Fleming's second-year goalkeeper Ashlie Drake made several saves to keep the hosts within striking distance.

Metivier (Garneau) and Timara Stuck (Fleming) were named the players of the game.

Fleming will match-up against their OCAA eastern conference divisional rival Algonquin Thunder in the bronze medal quarter-finals at 12:30 p.m.

Day two action begins at 10 a.m. as the MSVU Mystics square off against the Concordia Thunder.
