ALGONQUIN BLANKS FLEMING IN ALL-ONTARIO BATTLE AT WOMEN'S SOCCER NATIONALS

Bronze Medal Quarter-Final No. 2: Algonquin defeated Fleming 6-0

The OCAA champion Algonquin Thunder rebounded from a penalty kick loss with a 6-0 victory over the Fleming Knights at the CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship..

After going scoreless for 90 minutes in their loss to Ahuntsic, the Thunder offence exploded for six goals as they easily advanced to the bronze medal semifinals.

Becky Leese had bookend goals for the Thunder coming off a pair of corner kicks. She had the game's' opening goal in the seventh minute minute and the final goal in the 86th minute.

Kelly Stefanich also had two goals for the Thunder with Michelle Wilson and Vanessa MacMillan scoring singles in the win.

Karleigh Bell earned her second straight cleansheet, but did not see much action in the win with Fleming only pressing one forward the entire match.

Stefanich (Algonquin) and Kelly McInerney (Fleming) were named the players of the game.

Algonquin faced Fleming twice during the OCAA regular season, winning both matches 8-0 and 2-1.

Algonquin moves on to face the Douglas Royals on Friday at 12 noon.
