FANSHAWE 4, ST. CLAIR 1

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's soccer team lost their first match of the season on Tuesday afternoon to the Fanshawe Falcons by a score of 4-1. The Saints had won 13 straight matches including pre-season exhibition play heading into the game.

The Saints played a great first half with Kaitlyn Austin scoring in the 40th minute to give St. Clair a 1-0 lead going in the second half. The Saints had a glorious chance to go up 2-0 early in the second half but just missed.

Fanshawe's Jade Kovacevic then took over scoring four unanswered goals to seal the game for the Falcons. Kovacevic ended the regular season with 26 goals in 10 games to set an OCAA record. The previous record was 20 goals.

The Saints ended their regular season with a record of 9-1 and tied for first place with Fanshawe in the OCAA West Division. St. Clair is currently ranked second in Ontario and seventh in Canada. The Falcons were ranked fourth in Ontario and 11th in Canada. The Saints ended up on second place due to the tiebreaker. St. Clair defeated Fanshawe by a score of 2-1 in London on Oct. 8.

St. Clair will now host Niagara College on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. in a playoff crossover match at the Main Campus Field. The Knights ended up in fourth place in the very tough and competitive Central Division. The winner of this match will advance to the OCAA championship next week at Fleming College.
