ST. CLAIR 2, FANSHAWE 1

LONDON, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's soccer team travelled to London, Ont., on Wednesday and won a tight match over the top-ranked Fanshawe Falcons by a score of 2-1. This match was a battle for first place in the OCAA West Division.

The Saints went up 1-0 in the 11th minute on a goal by Brittany Chapieski. St. Clair made it 2-0 in the 14th minute on a nice strike by Tiffany Trembley and were up by that score heading into the half. Fanshawe closed the gap to 2-1 on a goal in the 77th minute but that was a close as the Falcons would get. Katrina Arnold was solid in net turning aside 10 of 11 shots on target.

The Saints are now 7-0 on the season while Fanshawe fell to 6-1. St. Clair is now in first place in the West Division with 21 points. Heading into the match Fanshawe was ranked second in Ontario and seventh in Canada while St. Clair was ranked third in Ontario and 11th in Canada. St. Clair also has three of the top 18 goal scorers in Canada in Bella Riccardi, Trembley and Robyn Preston.

The Saints are next in action at on Tuesday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Sarnia, Ont., to take on the Lambton Lions.
