MOHAWK 1, REDEEMER 1

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association soccer playoffs will be played this weekend and both Mohawk teams will be hoping for better performances than their regular season finales at Redeemer on Wednesday.

Lewis Tuininga fired a hat trick in the first 12 minutes to power the Redeemer Royals to a 3-1 victory over the Mountaineers in men's play.

Sani Dey got the lone Mohawk goal in the 59th minute.

Mohawk finished the regular campaign with a 4-5-1 record while Redeemer was just one point ahead of them with a 4-4-2 mark.

In women's action, Keigan Curran pounced on a loose ball in the 84th minute to earn Mohawk a 1-1 draw with Redeemer. The goal cancelled out Rachel Guetter's first minute tally for the Royals.

Mohawk outshot Redeemer 13-2 but could have lost the game had Elyssa Bernacci not made a fine stop on a late game free kick.

The Mountaineers finished the regular season with a 5-4-1 record while the Royals wound up 2-7-1

Details on crossover playoff games will be confirmed Thursday.
