MOHAWK 4, SHERIDAN 2

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Mohawk women's soccer team has earned a berth in the OCAA championship. The Mountaineers doubled the Sheridan Bruins 4-2 in Oakville, Ont., on Saturday and will play the Algonquin Thunder of Ottawa in the quarter-finals on Thursday near Windsor.

The Mountaineers appeared to be home and cooled out with goals by Taylor Campbell in the 21st minute, Gabrielle Krebs in the 52nd and Michele DiDionisio in the 77th minute. However, Sheridan goals by Kamila Swaby in the 86th minute and Kendra Cooper in the 90th minute brought the Bruins back to within one goal. But Krebs' second goal of the match ended the threat in stoppage time.

""They made it interesting near the end, but we truly controlled every aspect of the game. I'm very proud of them," said Mohawk co-head coach Michael Castellani. "Danielle (Datzkiw), Taylor and Michelle completely controlled the middle. Gabi finally found her stride."

Castellani said the Mountaineers played as a team and won as a team. "It's a great way to enter the OCAA championship, playing No. 1 Algonquin in the quarters."
