HARD WORK PAYING OFF FOR DURHAM WOMEN'S SOCCER

OSHAWA, Ont. – First year head coach Alex Bianchi is changing the culture around the Durham College women's soccer program with the intention of bringing it back to be one of the perennial contenders for the OCAA and CCAA championship.

Although this process won't happen overnight, things have looked positive early in preseason action. The Lords opened up the year with a 1-0 loss to Niagara, followed up a week later (Sunday) with a 3-0 victory over the Sheridan Bruins.

"The coaching staff has been happy with the progression of the team," said Bianchi. "We are starting to put the things we work on in practice into application in the games."

Emily Coons (Orono, Ont.), Melissa Brace (Mount Forest, Ont.) and Shae-Lynn Young (Oshawa, Ont.) were the goal scorers for Durham, showing off a well-balanced offensive attack while the defence limited Sheridan's scoring opportunities.

The Lords will continue to focus on training for the upcoming season on the practice field. Their next game action is not coming until the campus cup that is set for Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m against UOIT.

Durham will open up OCAA conference action on Sept. 9 against the always tough Algonquin Thunder in Ottawa. The Lords home opener will be on Sept. 13 versus the Loyalist Lancers with kick off at Vaso's Field scheduled for 6 p.m.
