MOHAWK 3, ST. CLAIR 2

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College varsity soccer teams continued their OCAA regular season schedules as they faced the Mohawk College Mountaineers from Hamilton, Ont., on Saturday afternoon at the Main Campus Field.

The St. Clair women's team undefeated season came to an end with a tough 3-2 loss. The Saints probably deserved a better fate in this match based on time of possession, shot attempts and shots on goal, however, all the matters is the final score. Mohawk got off to a great start scoring goals in the eighth and 11th minute on nice strikes from in close. The play was pretty even for the rest of the half until the Mountaineers went up 3-0 in the 38th minute. The Saints had 11 shot attempts in the first half while Mohawk had six. The Mohawk keeper made some solid saves in the first half stopping all six shots she faced.

The St. Clair women were the dominant team in the second half. The Saints got on the scoreboard in the 56th minute on a goal by Jaclyn French (Windsor). St. Clair continued to pressure but could not score again until the 76th minute on a nice effort by Ryan Morneau (Windsor). St. Clair pressed hard for the rest of the half but could not get the equalizer on the Mohawk keeper. The Saints had 18 shot attempts in the second half compared to only two for Mohawk as the ball barely left the Mohawk half. The Mohawk keeper faced 11 shots on goal turning aside nine of them in the half. Final shots on goal for the game were 17-6 for St. Clair.

With the loss, the Saints record fell to 3-1 on the season and are in third place in the OCAA West Division. Mohawk improved to 4-1 on the year. The St. Clair women are currently ranked fifth in the OCAA. The St. Clair women are on the road for their next two matches next weekend against Redeemer and Mohawk.

WINDSOR, Ont. - A big win for the Mohawk women's soccer team in Windsor, Ont., on Saturday (Sept. 23).

The Mountaineers nipped the St. Clair Saints 3-2, to move by them in the standings.

Mohawk grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first half on goals by Keigan Curran (Niagara Falls-St. Michaels), Caitlin Laughlin (Waterdown) and Laura Stankovic (Stoney Creek-Bishop Ryan).

The Saints rallied for two goals in the second half, after a couple of mental mistakes by the Mountaineers, but the visitors just shut them down the rest of the way.

Mohawk upped it's mark to 4-1, while St. Clair dropped to 3-1.

Co-head coach Michael Castellani called it a great result. "It's been a number of years since we've come to St. Clair and taken three points from them (and it) was a very hot, long journey to the win," Castellani said.
