Capilano College is set to host the 2007 Canadian Colleges
Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s National Volleyball
Championship from March 7-10 in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) is pleased to
announce the undefeated Nipissing Lakers will represent Ontario at
the Championship.
The Nipissing Lakers from North Bay enter the competition with a
perfect 17-0 record. The sixth seeded Lakers will kick off the
tournament against the third seed and defending CCAA Bronze
medalists, Malaspina University College Mariners from Nanaimo, BC
on March 8 at 11:00 pm (EST). This will be the first trip to the
National Championship for the Lakers who posted an undefeated 3-0
record at the OCAA Championship in Barrie on February 22-24.
At the OCAA tournament North Bay native Megan Stacey was named
Championship Tournament MVP for her performances and was joined by
teammates Lynn Danis and Stefanie Hancock as Championship
Tournament All-Stars. A fourth year player, Stacey will be honoured
at the CCAA All Canadian Awards Banquet as an All-Canadian. This
will be the fourth time she has been bestowed with the honour and
marking the first time in OCAA history any one athlete has been
named as an All-Canadian in four consecutive years.
Also being honoured as an All-Canadian in British Columbia will be
the OCAA Player of the Year, Laura Fowler from Cambrian College.
Fowler ends an impressive four year career that has seen the
6’4 Ontario Scoring Champion win a CCAA National Championship
Bronze medal in 2004-05 at the Collège
François-Xavier-Garneau in Québec City.
The four day event kicks off on Wednesday, March 7 with the CCAA
All Canadian Awards Banquet and play begins on Thursday, March 8 at
