NIPISSING SHOWS FAIR PLAY IN NATIONALS DEBUT

Nipissing University got their first taste of National Championship action on the weekend finishing seventh at the North Vancouver tournament, but leaving a lasting impression with the tournament as the ladies were named as the Tournament Fair Play Award winners.

The Lakers faced a stern test in the opening round match against the Malaspina Mariners from British Columbia falling in straight sets 25-22, 25-21, 25-16. Megan Stacy was named the Player of the Game for Nipissing after downing 14 kills in 28 attempts and contributing six digs. Lynn Danis also had a strong game leading the team in kill percentage .400, digs (8) and service aces (2).

In game two, Megan Stacey led her team again, hitting .286, while adding six digs and three aces in the 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-17) loss to Mount Royal College. Setter, Christina Crozier, distributed the ball well, notching out 23 assists, while Player of the Game, Stefanie Hancock, played a solid all around game with six kills, five digs and one ace.

Lynn Danis showed again she was a complete player in the game versus Mount Allison University, leading the team to the 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) victory with a .536 hitting percentage, resulting from 16 kills in her school’s first National Championship Tournament victory. Danis also contributed three digs and two blocks in the win and was named Player of the Game. Stacey also had a productive game with 20 kills in 33 attempts and added 12 digs to her totals.

In the closing ceremony, Nipissing University was awarded with the Championship Tournament Fair Play Award and Megan Stacey was named to the 2nd Team CCAA Championship All-Tournament team.
