DOYLE STANDS ALONE AFTER SETTING ALL-TIME SCORING RECORD

TORONTO - Perennial all-star Landis Doyle of the Humber College women's volleyball team is now the sole owner of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women's volleyball all-time individual points record. She accomplished this historic feat in a game against Kitchener's Conestoga Condors on Wednesday in a game held at the Humber Athletic Centre.

The magic number was 1,036, as the record of 1,035 points was held by three-time all-Canadian Megan Stacey of Nipissing University. Stacey set the record in 2007, her fourth and final year of provincial play.

Doyle, a fifth-year player, entered the match needing seven points to tie and the eighth to take possession of the record. She established the new mark in the first set of the match, scoring by way of a monster kill. The game was delayed momentarily to retrieve the ball, and a new one was brought into the game.

At the end of the set, a short presentation took place. Humber athletic director Doug Fox presented her with a commemorative print, while the coaching staff joined in by giving her the record setting ball and a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The large crowd on hand rose to their feet and applauded her record setting performance.

On the evening Doyle finished the match with a total of 13 points, by way of 10 kills, one service ace and two stuff blocks. Her career mark is now a comfortable 1,041 points, five points beyond the old mark. She still has six matches to go in the regular season, and her current number will certainly grow.

"This was a special night," said Fox, "since she was able to do it on her home court, in front of her fellow Humber varsity athletes, Hawk fans ,and friends and family."

The all-time point's record is not the only mark within her grasp as Doyle is just seven aces from breaking the record for most service aces in a career. The current record of 188 is held by Loyalist College's Mandi Buma.

Humber will be retiring her No. 8 uniform at a ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 9, which will be held between the women's and men's volleyball games against Niagara College.
