ETOBICOKE, Ont. - Perennial all-star Landis Doyle, the sole
owner of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s
volleyball all-time individual points record, has just added the
service ace mark to her resume. Doyle accomplished the feat on
Wednesday in her final regular season home game.
The ace came in the second set of Humber’s decisive victory
over Niagara. Doyle had tied the record in the first half but the
Hawks lost serve shortly after. Her second time serving in the
second set she made no mistake burying the old mark on her second
service.
Doyle has now set the bar to 191 aces and with three more regular
season games to play she looks to extend her lead on second
place.
The previous record was 188, a record held by Mandi Buma of
Loyalist College. Buma established the mark last season, in her
fourth and final year of OCAA play.
When asked prior to the start of Wednesday's match, Humber director
of athletics Doug Fox said “this has been a special season
for Landis. Setting the all time points record was incredible, and
the possibility of adding the service ace record is just icing on
the cake.”
She not only holds the all-time points record and service ace
record, she has moved up to second all-time in the kills and
blocks. Each and every game she adds to the all-time points record,
which now sits at 1,071 points. Doyle is now first or second in the
OCAA’s four most important statistical categories in
women’s volleyball.
Humber retired her number eight uniform at a ceremony on Wednesday,
held between the women’s and men’s volleyball games
against Niagara College.
