TORONTO - The following have been named Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) volleyball student-athletes of the week
for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 22.
MALE: Justin Scapinello, Mohawk
Second-year right side Justin Scapinello (London,
Ont.) was a key contributer in a pair of Mohawk wins. Scapinello
earned 19 offensive points on 12 kills, four stuff blocks and three
service aces in a come-from-behind 3-2 (22-25, 24-26, 27-25, 28-26,
15-12) win over Niagara on Jan. 18. Scapinello led all players with
a 14-point effort on nine kills, four aces and one block in a 3-0
(25-17, 25-21, 25-14) win over Sheridan on Jan. 21. Mohawk (9-3)
has won four straight.
FEMALE: Jori Armishaw, Algonquin
Third-year player Jori Armishaw (Ottawa) led
Algonquin to a pair of home victories. Armishaw contributed 11
offensive points on seven kills, three service aces and one stuff
block in a 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-13, 26-24) win over Seneca. She
then earned 10 points on eight kills and two aces in a 3-2 (12-25,
16-25, 27-25, 25-17, 15-7) comeback win over Georgian. Algonquin
(10-4) has won seven straight, and have moved up to third place in
the OCAA East region.
