TORONTO - The following have been named Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) volleyball student-athletes of the week
for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 12.
MALE: Dave McMann, Durham
Durham fifth-year middle David McMann (Elmvale,
Ont.) broke the OCAA regular season record for stuff blocks in a
3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22) victory over Loyalist on Feb. 7,
surpassing the previous mark of 69 shared by three players. McMann
now has 78 for the 2011-12 season after four blocks against
Loyalist and eight more in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-22) win over
George Brown on Feb. 10. Durham has one more match at Georgian on
Wednesday before it enters post-season play.
FEMALE: Marieka Ouimette, Niagara
Niagara third-year middle Marieka Ouimette
(Spencerville, Ont.) helped her Knights secure a post-season berth
in a pair of wins. In a 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-6, 21-25, 15-12) win
at Sheridan on Feb. 8, Ouimette contributed six kills, seven blocks
and four aces for a match-high 17 points. She then shared the team
lead with 16 points on 11 kills, four blocks and one ace in a 3-1
(21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-18) win at St. Clair on Feb. 12. Niagara
hosts Humber on Wednesday before playing host to a championship
qualifier.
