TORONTO - The following have been named Ontario Colleges
Athletic Association (OCAA) volleyball student-athletes of the week
for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 26.
MALE: Derek Quinn, Humber
Humber fourth-year setter Derek Quinn
(Mississauga, Ont.) was named tournament most valuable player at
the recent OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship. In three matches,
Quinn totaled 10 points on three kills, five aces and two blocks.
He was named player of the game in the final against Nipissing,
serving up an ace to clinch Humber's third consecutive OCAA title.
Prior to the tournament, Quinn was named an OCAA West region
second-team all-star.
FEMALE: Kelly Nyhof, Humber
Humber third-year middle Kelly Nyhof (Georgetown,
Ont.) was named tournament most valuable player at the recent OCAA
Women's Volleyball Championship. In three matches, Nyhof totaled 44
points on 33 kills, 10 blocks and one ace. She was named player of
the game in a semi-final win against Nipissing. Prior to the
tournament, Nyhof was named the OCAA women's volleyball player of
the year, an OCAA West region first-team all-star, and an
all-Canadian.
