HUMBER PLAYS IN NATIONAL BRONZE SEMI-FINAL

NAINAMO, B.C. - The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team pushed the No. 1-ranked VIU squad, but eventually lost in four sets in the national semi-final game on Friday night.

When the dust settled the set scores read 23-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 14-25. The first three sets were incredibly close, games in which the visiting Hawks silenced the standing only crowd on a number of occasions.

The Vancouver Island team were ahead in most of the first set, but the Hawks fought all the way back to tie the set at 23. Humber was unable to complete the comeback, losing on one of the many aces of the night.

The second set was all Hawks as they led from start to finish. At one point it was a solid 18-12 lead. VIU did fight back but could get no closer than two points.

The third set mirrored the first, with Humber coming back to tie the set late, but unable to close.

The fourth set started well for the Hawks as they led 3-1 early. VIU then took completely over, serving darts all over the court and not allowing Humber to put the ball into play. At one point a Mariner player served four aces in a row. It was simple situation where the VIU squad put thier foot on the gas, and Humber seemingly playing with the tank empty.

Kelly Nyhof was selected as the Humber Player of the Game. She had 14 kills in 21 attempts, which is a 571 kill percentage.

Give the Hawks full credit for an incredible effort, one which will hopefully transpire into a great effort in tomorrow morning's semi final bronze game against FX Garneau.

The game will see the first serve fly at 3 p.m. ET.
