FANSHAWE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM FINISHES SEASON WITH SILVER LINING

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's volleyball team's season has come to end but not before earning the silver medal at the 2014 OCAA provincial championship.

This marks the first medal for the Fanshawe women's volleyball program at the OCAA championships since 2011, when they captured the bronze. It is also the first silver medal in the program's history.

Fanshawe opened the tournament on Thursday afternoon in the quarter-finals, defeating the Georgian Grizzlies in four sets (25-27, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19). Kaitlyn Kelly earned game MVP for her outstanding efforts in the match, including 12 kills.

The Falcons then went on to defeat the Seneca Sting in the OCAA semi-final in three straight sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-17). OCAA all-rookie and game MVP Darian Gropp finished with 22 assists, to go along with 10 digs and one huge stuff block.

In the championship final, Fanshawe took the first set from the Humber Hawks but eventually fell in four sets (25-22, 16-25, 10-25, 22-25). Kelly led the way for the Falcons with a team-high six kills.

Shelby Charlton, along with Kelly, were named OCAA championship all-stars.
