HUMBER LOSES CCAA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE

NORTH YORK, Ont. - The seventh place match-up in the 2014 CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship featured the Humber Hawks and Mount Saint Vincent Mystics.

In what would be the final match of the season for each team, the two teams took to the court looking to end their season on a positive note.

Each squad entered winless through two matches at the championship via some tough, heartbreaking losses, which is a testament to the caliber of volleyball exhibited at the 2014 national championship. On a different day, this could have in fact been a gold medal final matchup.

The Mystics stormed out to a 2-0 set lead, catching the sluggish Hawks off-guard. Everything was clicking for the Mystics, and the Hawks created some issues for themselves with unforced errors.

It was a different story in the third set as the Hawks began executing on both sides of the ball, playing with some confidence. The Mystics battled back as the teams would exchange possession of the lead multiple times. In the end, the Mystics from Mount Saint Vincent would come out on top, winning in straight sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-22).

Christina Day continued to have a strong championship, registering nine points for the Mystics in the win. Libero Haley MacDonald, playing in her final match in a Mystics uniform, was named player of the game.

CCAA Player of the Year and fifth-year player Kelly Nyhof capped off her illustrious career, accumulating 17 points in three sets and being named player of the game.

With the victory, the Mystics finish the championship in seventh place while the Hawks finish in eighth.
