HUMBER DOMINANT ON WAY TO STRAIGHT SET WIN AT WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL NATIONALS

LONGUEUIL, Que. - The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team advanced to the CCAA bronze medal semifinal game on Saturday, by way of their 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-14) win over Mount Saint Vincent University of the ACAA.

Humber will play the loser of the championship semifinal game between Grande Prairie and the defending national champion Red Deer Queens, which will be played on Friday night. Game time is set for 12 noon on Saturday.

Humber, after a tough five-set loss on the opening night, controlled today's game from the onset. Playing like a team on a mission, the Hawks played perhaps its most complete game of the season. They ran out to huge leads in every set, getting to the 10 point mark before the Mystics came close to five. When the sets approached the 20-point mark the difference was even larger. In the last set, the Hawks were toying with a set where they may not have even allowed 10 points, but a short run by MSVU got them into double figures.

There were a number of fine individual performances on the day. Setter Brittany Vanderlaan was outstanding, providing a terrific touch in putting the ball in the ultimate spot for Humber attackers. Kyla Wilkins came off the bench on a number of occasions and delivered with tough serves and fine back court defence.

But, the best player for both teams was all-Canadian Thalia Hanniman. She once again led the team in scoring by delivering 14 kills and two aces in just three sets. On Thursday she had 23 kills, and now is averaging an amazing 4.63 kills per set. For her efforts, Thalia was named the Humber player of the game.
