SHERIDAN REELS OFF SIX WINS TO CLAIM WANNAMAKER INVITATIONAL TITLE

OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (11-3) posted a perfect 6-0 record in the Wannamaker Invitational Tournament and defeated Redeemer in the championship match to win their home tournament for the first time in team history.

"I was pretty happy with our performance and I thought we were able to consistently give a pretty strong effort," Sheridan head coach Scott Hunt said. "That's something we've tried to do - not let our execution or the score of the game determine how hard we're going to work and our attitude in the game. So I thought we did a good job of staying positive and working hard the whole match and we did a good job of scrambling to keep balls alive. Teams got frustrated throughout the weekend because we worked hard to defend and keep plays alive."

The tournament was bookended with matches against Redeemer for the Double-Blue, as they opened with a victory prior to their meeting in the championship match.

They went on to finish first in their pool - earning a bye to the tournament semifinal - after defeating Loyalist, UTM and Cambrian and then downed Mohawk in the semi final to set up the re-match with Redeemer.

They have one more tune-up game before opening OCAA West Division play - ironically at home against Redeemer on Oct. 25 - with a trip to George Brown on Oct. 21.

Hunt says it will provide them with a good opportunity to transition back into the rhythm that they will face during the course of the 18-game conference schedule.

"This weekend was tough in terms of the tournament structure, which didn't allow us to match plan a lot because we didn't know who we would be playing in the playoffs," he said. "Tuesday will give us a great opportunity to develop a match plan since we've played George Brown already and to go through an actual game plan and watch video on an opponent since that will be something similar to what we'll do during the season."
