HUMBER 3, NIAGARA 0

NORTH BAY, Ont. - It took just under an hour for Humber to sweep Niagara 3-0, (25-9, 25-22, 25-18) in the OCAA women's volleyball gold medal match.

Many of the Hawks players managed to go their entire career without a single loss in OCAA action, a winning streak that reached 106 with today's gold medal win.

"It never gets old. This year we had our fair share of battles and we faced some adversity, but to become the longest winning OCAA team in history in the same year was also extra special for the girls," shared Humber head coach Chris Wilkins.

The Hawks exploded to a quick 10-0 lead in the first set and never looked back, winning it easily. Niagara played a much stronger game in the second, but fell short. Humber then capitalized on miscues in the third to sweep the game.

"We played a total team effort tonight, we knew we had to play better to be successful and our captain (Thalia Hanniman) said we are not going to let this slip away and the team responded," added Wilkins.

Humber's Alley Newman was named player of the game for her team and tournament MVP went to Brittany Vanderlaan of the Hawks. Jordan Koslowski received MVP honours for Niagara. She finished with eight digs and five kills.

With the title, Humber has now won 11 of the last 12 provincial championships.
