DURHAM WINS ADIDAS CUP FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2003-04 SEASON

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team continued their win streak through the 29th Annual Adidas Cup, walking away with the tournament title for the first time in 12 years.

Durham finished off their weekend by sweeping the Loyalist Lancers 2-0 (25-11, 25-14) in the final.

"It was a great weekend of volleyball in preparation for the second half of the season," said Durham head coach Tony Clarke. "We may have won all of our games, but know that there is still lots of work to be done before February."

The Lords opened pool play with back-to-back 2-0 victories over Fleming and Western's JV team before teams were re-pooled based on results, putting them in a pool with Algonquin, Loyalist and Centennial.

Again, Durham won all three round-robin matches 2-0 to advance to the tournament semifinal.

Their tightest match came against the Cambrian Golden Shield in the semifinal, which they won 2-1 (25-17, 20-25, 15-7).

In the other semifinal Loyalist won their three-set match by coming from behind to win the third set 18-16 over the Mohawk Mountaineers, who hadn't lost a set during round-robin play.

Prior to this weekend of exhibition play the Lords carried a 9-0 conference record into the holiday break. Their next match is Thursday, Jan. 12 at home when they welcome the Seneca Sting. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.

After the tournament final, Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) was named MVP, while Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) and Brier Kaake (Whitby, Ont.) were named tournament all-stars.
