DURHAM SET TO HOST OCAA VOLLEYBALL ALL-STAR GAMES

OSHAWA, Ont. - Coming off successful Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) volleyball championships, the Durham College athletic department is excited to welcome the province's best volleyball players to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre for the OCAA volleyball all-star game on Saturday, March 18.

This will be the third time in four years that Durham will be hosting the volleyball all-star games after hosting both the basketball and volleyball games in back-to-back years in 2014 and 2015.

The day will begin with the skills competitions at 9:30 a.m. followed by the women's all-star game at 1:10 p.m. and the men's match at 3:30 p.m.

"We are really looking forward to welcoming back the best collegiate volleyball student-athletes in the province on all-star Saturday," said Durham College athletic director Ken Babcock. "It will be a full day of action on campus with over 100 participants and we hope to have a lot of fans from the Durham Region come out and cheer on the competitors. As we've witnessed in previous years, the athletes competing in the OCAA are second to none."

The games will take centre stage, but there will also be a number of other competitions that fans will enjoy including a skills competition, mascot contests and fan promotions. Not only will Ontario's best players and coaches be represented, but the participating schools will also be sending their top mascots to perform.

In conjunction with the all-star games, Durham College volleyball is also hosting a skills clinic at 11:30 a.m. for the local volleyball community. The OCAA silver medalists will be running the clinic prior to the matches getting underway at 1:10 p.m.

"The host committee really wanted to make this event as fan friendly as possible. If you are at the event from start to finish, there won't be a minute where you are not entertained."

Durham College is no stranger to hosting major events having hosted a number of provincial and national championships.

"Hosting these events is a great opportunity to showcase our campus facilities, hospitality and the Oshawa community to the rest of the province," said Babcock. "We are looking forward to both events and welcoming athletes from all across Ontario."
