FANSHAWE 3, CAMBRIAN 2

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Cambrian Golden Shield put up a strong fight against the Fanshawe Falcons to take them to five sets, resulting in a 3-2 Fanshawe win at the 2017 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect held at St. Clair College's SportsPlex on Saturday.

Cambrian had a strong effort in the first set winning 26-24; a tough loss for Fanshawe going into extra points. Going into to the match Fanshawe was finisehd fourth in the West Division with a record of 10-8 while Cambrian finished sixth in the West Division with a record of 9-9.

In the second set Fanshawe came back from a seven-point deficit set winning 25-16. In the third set, Fanshawe had a late start down 7-1, but came back with a win of 25-21. That made it 2-1 for Fanshawe but the Falcons could not handle the lead as the Golden Shield came back in the fourth set with it on the line winning the set 25-20.

The fifth and deciding set was 16-14 for the Falcons. Players of the Game were Kailey Bastien from Cambrian Golden Shield with a total of eight kills and five digs. For the Fanshawe Falcons it was Meghan Morelli with a total of 21 kills, five service aces, two stuff blocks and 12 digs.

Fanshawe will now advance to the Consolation Final against either Algonquin Thunder or the Loyalist Lancers at 12 noon on Sunday.
