GEORGIAN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TUNE-UP FOR SECOND HALF AT ADIDAS CUP

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team competed in the annual Adidas Cup hosted by Durham College this past weekend in Oshawa, Ont.

During pool play on Day 1 of the tournament on Friday the Grizzlies had a tough time getting over the hump as they fell to the Canadian Mennonite Blazers 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-22) followed by a 3-1 loss to the Mohawk Mountaineers in the afternoon with set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22.

Things started off better for the Grizzlies on Day 2 as they opened with a big 3-2 win over the Seneca Sting to begin the consolation round robin. The match went the distance with the Grizzlies pulling out the victory with set scores of 25-13, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25 and 16-14.

Later in the day, Georgian fell to Sherbrooke University 3-0 (25-16, 25-2, 25-18) to round out Saturday.

On the third and final day the Grizzlies had a solid effort defeating the Algonquin Thunder 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22) which put Georgian in 10th place overall to finish the tournament.

The Grizzlies will now switch their focus as they prepare for the second half of their OCAA regular season which begins this Saturday, Feb. 13 when they travel to take on the Fleming Knights (2-6).

Georgian is currently sitting in a three-way tie for third in the OCAA east division standings with a 6-3 record.

The team will play their first home game of the second half on Friday, Feb. 19 when they host the Seneca Sting at 6 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre. Tickets for the game are available at the door for $5.
