FANSHAWE, HUBBARD-OLESKY WIN OCAA CROSS COUNTRY MEN'S TITLES

KING CITY, Ont. - Fanshawe College improved its record streak to six straight men's team titles at the 2014 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Cross Country Championships held at Seneca College's King Campus.

The Falcons were led by individual silver medalist Seth Marcaccio (Byron, Ont.) who finished in a time of 27:59 on the eight kilometre course. Luke Deighan (Newmarket, Ont.) placed eighth overall (28:59); Ryan Foott (London, Ont.) was 12th (29:22) and Caleb Trotter (London, Ont.) was 25rd (30:30). Fanshawe earned 43 team points (based on its top four individual placements). Fanshawe has now won 13 OCAA men's team cross country titles, more than any other program.

Humber College were men's runners-up for the fourth straight season. Daniel Bright (Brampton, Ont.) was the top Hawks runner finishing in 14th place with a time of 29:43. Eric Bang (Oakville, Ont.) was 18th (29:53); Sam Kirwin (Embro, Ont.) was 19th (29:56) and Ali Ghadghoni (Richmond Hill, Ont.) was 22th (30:11). Humber finished with 65 points.

Fleming College earned its fourth men's team bronze medal in five years, led by this year's OCAA men's individual champion Riley Hubbard-Olesky (Oshawa, Ont.) in a time of 27:53, six seconds ahead of Marcaccio. For Hubbard-Olesky, it is his second individual medal in as many years, earning silver last year. Teammates Zachary Johnson (Whitby, Ont.) finished in seventh place (28:56); Ian Weir (Stratford, Ont.) was 20th (29:57) and Ben Sullivan (Orangeville, Ont.) was 50th (32:16). Fleming totaled 71 points.

Other notable male runners include Rob Asselstine (Sydenham, Ont.) of St. Lawrence College (Kingston) who won individual bronze in a time of 28:11; Gavin Shields (Cambridge, Ont.) of Confederation College who finished fourth (28:16); Andrew Aguanno (Etobicoke, Ont.) of St. Clair College who was fifth (28:50); and Ryan Fennell (Barrie, Ont.) of Georgian College with a sixth best time of 28:51. The top seven finishers are named to the first all-Ontario team.

The next seven runners are named to the second all-Ontario team. These members include St. Clair's Skylar Edwards (Windsor, Ont.) who placed ninth (29:02); Eliud Lagat (Kenya) of George Brown College and his 10th place standing (29:12); Saed Griffith (Oshawa, Ont.) of Centennial College who placed 11th (29:19); and Confederation's Greg Kilroy (Powassan, Ont.) in 13th place (29:36).

OCAA runners will now compete in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Cross-Country Running National Championships in Calgary on Nov. 8.
